STAND, and Be True with ANV
As you may know, I am a big reader. I love reading everything. Articles, blog posts, but my favorite are books. Fiction, to be exact. I'm the type of person who learns best by parable. A story with a moral at the end.
Of the thousands of books that I've read, no book has altered the way I see the world and my mission than Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. There is a timely theme throughout the books that speaks to me of what we, as individuals, as a community, as a nation must do:
"Stand, and Be True".
For me, this quote embodies all that we are striving for at Acta Non Verba. It keeps us focused on our values, goals, and community. It challenges us to be brave in the face of adversity, racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and ableism. While "Deeds, Not Words" is our name and vision, "Stand, and Be True" is the beating heart of who we are.
The election has re-opened a throbbing wound threatening lasting damage to our children, families, and communities, and to our lands and waterways that have been our lifeblood for eons. A clarion call was what was really needed, a reminder that ANV will Stand, and Be True.
